BeSS
Bersih, Selamat dan Sihat (BeSS)
Bersih, Selamat dan Sihat Certification, or in short, BeSS is a recognition to encourage food premise operators in practicing safe and wholesome food for customers. This program has been improvised based on the existing certification program implemented by MOH.
As eating out has become an increasing trend nowadays, and in relevant to the raising concern over obese population in Malaysia, BeSS is aimed to help food business operators in four different key areas in providing healthy and safe food. This is to encourage the business operators to be in line with the MOH objective in promotion of healthy lifestyle and diet for the population.
In this certification program, four criteria has to be in compliance accordingly to BeSS requirement before food premise operator can be certified. The criteria includes:
- Maintaining a hygienic food premise
- Safe food preparation and handling
- Preparing healthier choice of food, and
- Preparing and promoting appropriate food serving size according to individual needs and national guidance.

Product categories eligible to be certified in BeSS includes food, fruit or beverage. The range of business operators cover from market, hawkers, food stall, food court, restaurant, cafeteria, canteen to catering services.
